The 40 mm Automatic Gun L-70 on Field Mounting is a close range anti-aircraft weapon, mounted in a single-barrel mounting on a 4 wheel trailer carriage. It is intended for engaging high speed air-craft flying at low altitude, its chief characteristics being high speeds of elevation and traverse combined with a high rate of fire. The gun is normally fired electrically from remote control. It can also be fired electrically from the gun position by means of the local power control. In case power supply fails, the gun can be operated purely mechanically from the mounting.
The gun is a development of the original 40 mm Bofors gun, the term L-70 referring to the length of the barrel in calibres. Although it is a rapid fire automatic weapon, it can be set for a single shot, it is fed by an automatic mechanism into which 4 round clips are loaded by hand. The ammunition, both live and practice version are manufactured to following nominal parameters.

The raw materials used for components are tested by independent quality assurance wing. During manufacturing stage quality surveillance by both producer and Army's representatives are provided. Major components are test fired and only passed proof components are taken into final assembly of ammunition. The final round is dynamically proved for (a) Muzzle velocity (b) Pressure (c) Automaticity (d) Tracer functioning.
Due to its sound design and careful manufacture, the ammunition is very reliable to use in combat field environment.
The shelf life of the ammunition is 12 years.
Each round is packed in water proof laminated paper containers, the body & lid of which is closed with two turns of water proof tape adhesive. 12 such contained rounds are packed in one steel box. C-18A.
