This is an anti-air ammunition. It is a complete round consisting of case cartridge, cap (Detonating Fuze NR-3), propellant charge, projectile (Shell) like other ammunition. Details of the components are as follows:
The case cartridge, made of steel, is rimless but belted type, the length of cartridge case is approx 151.8 mm. It has got a pocket at the base to house a cap (Primer). This pocket is connected to the interior of the case by only one central fire hole. Case is having a base dia of 33.29 mm and flange of width 3 mm followed by extractor groove of width 5 mm. After extractor groove, case is slightly tapered to form a shoulder after which the taper is slightly increased to form a neck with parallel walls. The shell is fixed to the cartridge case by indenting and coning.

The propellant charge used is single base heptatubular graphited propellant having mass of 78 gms (approx).
Shell comprises of body, driving band, tracer, incendiary charge (igniting charge) and ballistic cap.
Driving bands are fitted to the body. At lower portion of the body below the driving band 2 grooves are formed to facilitate fixing of the cartridge case. The shell is flat headed and is having 2 tiers of grooves and knurling for better fixing of ballistic cap. Body is recessed at the base to accommodate tracer composition having a mass of 2.62 gms. Incendiary charge (Igniting charge) is placed over the flat head portion of the armour piercing body. Ballistic cap is having a streamlined shape.

Strict quality measures are adopted during various stages of production. Finished components and all materials before manufacturing of the components are submitted to the Quality checks by personnel as per the control points mutually decided. There is also sanctioning proof of major components as per the proof schedule by the Quality Assurance department before accepting the bulk lot.
This ammunition is quite safe during handling, storage and transportation.
Due to its sound design and the manufacture, the ammunition is quite reliable to use.
The shelf life of the ammunition is 5 years.
The rounds are packed in steel Box H2A/L with packing fitments. 25 cartridges are packed in one box. The rows are separated by paper waxed. 4 such boxes are packed in each carrier 6A/L.
